Expert told the reason
Well-known and certified animal behavior expert Jill Goldman told National Geographic that cucumbers were triggering cats’ natural startle instincts. Explaining the fearful response of cats, she said, a cat is often startled and tries to get out of there as quickly as possible and then checks itself from a distance. Pam Johnson-Bennett, author of Think Like a Cat, also said that placing cucumbers near the cats’ food can startle and frighten cats even more. In fact, cats always prefer to eat in a safe place, so that their full attention is on the food. Goldman said that it is also possible that cats associate cucumbers with snakes, which can be deadly predators.
This could be the main reason
The mystery of why cats hate cucumbers is usually explained by cats’ natural fear of snakes. In the eyes of cats, cucumbers can be very similar to snakes, which causes them to fear them and they jump a few feet in the air to avoid being bitten. We may find this reaction of cats funny, but it is actually a fear reaction, developed over millions of years of evolution, which protected their ancestors from snakes and other similar predators. However, scaring a cat with a cucumber is in no way humane nor is it a sign of intelligence.
