Supreme Court Grants Arvind Kejriwal Bail: The Supreme Court has granted bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in the alleged Delhi Excise Policy Scam case. Kejriwal, who had already got bail in the ED money laundering case, was in jail due to CBI’s arrest in a different case.
However, now that the Supreme Court has granted him bail in this case as well, the way for him to come out of jail has been cleared. 21 March 2024
The ED arrested him on March 21 in a money laundering case related to the liquor scam. Before the arrest, the ED had sent summons to Arvind Kejriwal 9 times, but he never appeared.
10 May 2024
Before the Lok Sabha elections, Kejriwal was granted interim bail by the Supreme Court on 10 May 2024. This bail was granted till 1 June with certain conditions.
2 June 2024
Kejriwal surrendered in Tihar Jail a day after the interim bail granted by the Supreme Court in the liquor policy case expired. He has been in jail since then.
26 June 2024
The CBI formally arrested Kejriwal. The CBI had arrested Kejriwal in a corruption case related to the alleged liquor scam. Special Judge Amitabh Rawat in Rouse Avenue Court had given permission to the CBI to formally arrest Kejriwal. When the CBI arrested Kejriwal, he was already in custody in the ED case.
12 July 2024
The Supreme Court gave Arvind Kejriwal a big relief by granting him interim bail in the ED case. However, he could not come out of jail due to the arrest by the CBI.
5 August 2024
The Delhi High Court upheld the CBI’s decision, justifying the arrest and directed him to approach the lower court for bail.
12 August 2024
Arvind Kejriwal’s lawyer challenged the Delhi High Court order in the Supreme Court and sought bail for Kejriwal.
5 September 2024
The Supreme Court heard the case and after hearing the arguments reserved the order on bail.
13 September 2024
The Supreme Court also granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal in the CBI case. With this, the way for him to come out of jail was opened. Justice Kant said in his decision that Kejriwal is granted bail in the CBI case on a bail bond of Rs 10 lakh.
