A case of girl students drinking beer in a government school in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district has come to light, following which education officials have started an investigation into it. An official gave this information on Tuesday.
The official said the matter came to light after an alleged video of beer drinking surfaced from the Government Higher Secondary School at Bhatchaura village in Masturi area and was said to have been shot on July 29.
Bilaspur District Education Officer (DEO) TR Sahu told the media that in the video that went viral on social media, girls can be seen drinking beer and soft drinks. He said that a three-member committee has been formed to investigate the alleged incident and the team recorded the statements of the concerned students and teachers on Monday.
Sahu said the students told the investigation team that they had waved beer bottles for fun while making the video, but they had not consumed beer. “Action will be taken against the principal and the head of the institution to ensure that such incidents do not happen again in the school,” the official said.
According to official sources, on July 29, some girls celebrated their classmate’s birthday in the classroom and allegedly consumed beer during the party. They also shot a video of the party.
The matter came to light when one of these students shared the alleged video of the beer party on social media. After this, there was a stir in the school administration and an investigation committee was immediately formed.
