Himanta Biswa Sarma News: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made a big allegation on Meghalaya Science and Technology University’s Vice Chancellor Mehbabul Haque. This allegation is of fraud. Let us tell you that even before this, Sarma has targeted Mehbabul Haque on many occasions.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state government will file a case (FIR) against the vice-chancellor of a private university in Meghalaya for fraudulently obtaining an OBC certificate from the state’s Karimganj district 32 years ago.
What did Assam CM allege?
On Wednesday (August 28), Sarma said, ‘Vice Chancellor of University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), Mahbabul Haque had obtained a certificate of belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC) in 1992. The Chief Minister said that the OBC certificate was cancelled in August 1996 on the basis of a complaint in the same year as it was found that Haque was not eligible to receive the certificate.
The university vice chancellor was held responsible for the flood
CM Sarma said, ‘The District Commissioner of Karimganj should have initiated action against him at that time, but this was not done. But now we will file an FIR against Haque.’ Earlier this month, Sarma blamed USTM and its owner and Vice Chancellor Haque for the floods in Guwahati. The Chief Minister claimed that the institute damaged the hills in its campus, which led to massive waterlogging in Guwahati. The university is located on a hill near the city.
Assam CM cited the report of the District Collector
While addressing the press conference, Himanta Biswa Sarma cited the report of the District Collector of Karimganj. He said, ‘A report has come from the District Collector, claiming that Mehbabul Haque had obtained the OBC certificate through wrong means.’
