Narendra Modi on Crime against Women: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the National Conference of District Judiciary at Bharat Mandapam on Saturday (31 August). During the address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi advocated speedy justice in cases of crime against women.
Emphasizing the need for speedy justice in cases of crime against women, PM Modi said that this will increase the confidence of women regarding safety. PM Modi said, “The judiciary is considered the guardian of the Constitution and the Supreme Court and the judiciary have fulfilled this responsibility very well.”
‘Never showed any mistrust’
PM Modi said in the presence of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, ‘The people of India have never shown any distrust towards the Supreme Court or the judiciary.’ Describing the imposition of Emergency as a ‘dark’ period, the Prime Minister said that the judiciary played an important role in maintaining fundamental rights.
What did he say on the Kolkata rape and murder case?
On matters of national security, PM Modi said, ‘The judiciary has protected national integrity by keeping national interests paramount. In the backdrop of the rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata and the sexual assault of two girls in a school in Thane, he said that atrocities against women and the safety of children are a matter of serious concern for the society.’
He said, ‘The faster justice is delivered in cases of atrocities against women, the more confident half the population will be about their safety. There are many stringent laws to deal with crimes against women and there is a need to ensure better coordination in the criminal justice system to ensure speedy justice.’
The political temperature is rising with each passing day over the incident of brutality against a female doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The Bharatiya Janata Party is constantly demanding the resignation of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Along with this, the BJP has also made several allegations against Mamata Banerjee regarding protecting the accused.
