Dasara Movie Review

Srikanth Odela’s Dasara is a film that leaves you with mixed feelings. Visually, the film is captivating, the characters are intriguing, and the atmosphere is tense. However, Srikanth fails to fully explore the themes he sets up, leaving you with a sense of incompleteness. This leads to some unexpected punches that hit hard, but ultimately the film falls short.

The setting of Veerlapally is one of stark contrasts. The Silk Bar is a popular spot, but casteism still runs rampant and not everyone is allowed inside. The men seem oblivious to the situation, but the women in the village are frustrated. The coal mining in the village also leaves everyone covered in a layer of soot. Power struggles between Rajanna, Shivanna, and Chinna Nambi keep things interesting, but the liquor always seems to be the winner.

Dharani is a character with his own set of fears, from speaking up in uncomfortable situations to losing bladder control at the sound of a cat shriek. His grandmother drinks to keep her fears at bay, and Dharani follows suit, always carrying a bottle with him. His best friend Suri is the center of his world, even if it means giving up his love for Vennela. The underdogs of Veerlapally get caught up in something bigger than themselves, and Dharani must face his fears without the help of his friends.

Srikanth spends most of the first half of the film building the world of Veerlapally and its characters, but fails to fully deliver in the second half. Some scenes are heavy and fail to hold your attention, while others come out of nowhere. However, the scenes that do work leave a lasting impact. The pre-interval scene is chilling and the climax is cathartic and bloody. The emotional and massy scenes both work well. Women in this universe suffer due to the men’s choices, but they also get their say.

Nani’s performance as Dharani is noteworthy, and Keerthy Suresh excels in some scenes. However, there are times when her acting falls flat. Shine Tom Chacko, Sai Kumar, and Samuthirakani are all talented actors who are unfortunately underutilized. Poorna and Deekshith play their parts well. Sathyan Sooryan’s cinematography and Santhosh Narayanan’s music are both major assets to the film.

Dasara is not a film that reinvents the wheel or leaves you with a smile, but it is a slow burn that manages to keep you engaged. Srikanth Odela and Nani deserve credit for their efforts.

Dasara Movie Story

Dasara is a Telugu language movie. The film stars popular actors Nani and Keerthy Suresh in lead roles. It is a gritty and emotional ride that tells the story of a young man named Raju, who is struggling to make ends meet.

Raju works as a small-time mechanic in a garage and dreams of starting his own business someday. He lives with his mother and younger sister, whom he loves deeply. However, his life takes a dramatic turn when he is falsely accused of a crime he did not commit.

Raju is arrested and sent to jail, leaving his family devastated. In jail, he meets a notorious criminal named Shankar, who takes him under his wing. Shankar teaches Raju the tricks of the trade and helps him become a successful criminal.

However, Raju’s life takes another unexpected turn when he falls in love with a young woman named Maheshwari. Maheshwari is the daughter of a wealthy businessman, and their love is frowned upon by both families. Despite the challenges, Raju and Maheshwari continue to meet in secret.

Meanwhile, Shankar’s criminal activities bring him into conflict with a powerful politician, who wants him dead. Raju gets caught in the crossfire and is forced to make some difficult choices. He must choose between his loyalty to Shankar and his love for Maheshwari.

In the end, Raju is able to overcome the challenges he faces and make amends for his past mistakes. He learns the value of family and the importance of doing the right thing. The film ends on an emotional note, leaving the audience with a sense of hope and optimism.

Overall, Dasara is a gripping and engaging movie that explores themes of love, loyalty, and redemption. The performances of the lead actors are top-notch, and the film’s direction and cinematography are also excellent. It is a must-watch for fans of Telugu cinema and anyone looking for a powerful and emotional story.

Performances

Nani delivers a powerful performance as Arjun, capturing the character’s pain and anguish with precision. Keerthy Suresh, in a relatively small but significant role, shines in her portrayal of Arjun’s wife. The supporting cast, including actors like Prakash Raj, Rao Ramesh, and Naresh, also deliver solid performances.

Direction

Trivikram Srinivas has crafted a film that is both gritty and emotional. He handles the story with sensitivity, allowing the characters to breathe and evolve naturally. The pacing is excellent, with the film never dragging or feeling too rushed.

Cinematography

The film’s cinematography by P.S. Vinod is stunning, capturing the raw beauty of the film’s locations. The use of light and shadows is particularly impressive, creating an immersive and atmospheric experience for the viewer.

Music

The music by Devi Sri Prasad is excellent, with the songs and background score complementing the film’s emotional beats perfectly. The songs are beautifully composed and well-placed within the narrative.

Final Verdict

Dasara is a well-crafted film that explores themes of love, loss, and redemption with sensitivity and nuance. The performances are excellent, the direction is solid, and the cinematography and music are top-notch. If you’re looking for a gritty, emotional ride, Dasara is definitely worth a watch.
