Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi appear before Delhi court in Land for Job case 2023

Former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi appeared before a Delhi court on Monday in connection with a job case. The case pertains to the alleged irregularities in granting a plot of land in Patna to a private company, in exchange for jobs in the company for the couple’s two sons.

Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi were granted bail in the case in 2021. However, they were required to appear before the court today for the framing of charges against them.

What is the Land for Job Case?

The land for job case, also known as the IRCTC scam, relates to the alleged irregularities in the allocation of a plot of land in Patna to a private company, Delight Marketing, in 2004. At the time, Lalu Prasad Yadav was the Railway Minister in the UPA government. It is alleged that the land was given to the company in exchange for a contract to run two hotels for the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). The CBI has alleged that Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members received a bribe in the form of three acres of prime land in Patna through a benami company, Delight Marketing.

The Allegations against Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi

Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi have been accused of criminal conspiracy, cheating, and corruption in the job case. The CBI has alleged that Lalu Prasad Yadav, as the Railway Minister, abused his official position to grant the contract to Delight Marketing. It is also alleged that Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family members received a bribe in the form of three acres of prime land in Patna through a benami company, Delight Marketing.

Previous Developments in the Case

Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi were granted bail in the case in 2021. The bail was granted on the condition that they appear before the court today for the framing of charges against them. The case was transferred to a special CBI court in Delhi after the Supreme Court ordered the transfer of all cases related to the land for job scam to the national capital.

Today’s Court Appearance

Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi appeared before a Delhi court on Monday for the framing of charges in the land-for-job case. The couple was accompanied by their sons Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav, who are also accused in the case. The charges will be framed on March 18.

Possible Implications for Lalu Prasad Yadav’s Political Career

The case has had a significant impact on Lalu Yadav’s political career. He has been convicted in several corruption cases and is currently serving a sentence of 14 years in jail in connection with the fodder scam. The framing of charges in this case could further damage his political standing and make it difficult for him to regain power in Bihar. However, Lalu Prasad Yadav’s supporters continue to stand by him, and he remains a prominent leader in the state’s political landscape.

The land-for-job case is just one of the many legal battles that Lalu Prasad Yadav is facing. In addition to the fodder scam, he is also facing charges in the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) scam, as well as the Bitumen scam. The outcome of these cases will have a significant impact on his political career and his future in Bihar politics.

Lalu Prasad Yadav has been a prominent leader in Bihar politics for several decades. He served as the Chief Minister of Bihar for three terms and also held the position of Railway Minister in the UPA government. His conviction in the fodder scam and the ongoing legal battles have made it difficult for him to remain active in politics. However, he continues to be a popular leader among the Yadav community and his supporters.

In recent years, Lalu Prasad Yadav has been working to unite the opposition parties in Bihar to take on the ruling BJP-JDU alliance. He has been successful in bringing together the RJD, Congress, and other parties to form a grand alliance. The alliance performed well in the 2015 Bihar assembly elections, and Lalu Prasad Yadav’s son Tejashwi Yadav served as the Deputy Chief Minister in the Nitish Kumar-led government.
